Beard Opulence was created to ensure beards are treated in the manner they deserve. Even if you don't buy our products (even though you should!), you should be taking care of your beard to make sure your beard isn't dry, itchy, and/or rough. Your beard should NEVER feel like a Brillo pad. EVER! So here is some free game for you. There are many articles on the web about maintaining beards, but most make it seem daunting. It's not a daunting task. WE PROMISE! Below are "cliff notes" on how to maintain a healthy beard. Thank us later, or by purchasing our products :-)
Wash Your beard with a Beard Wash (shampoo). It is specifically made to treat your beard. I know you're wondering why. Well, the simple answer is that beard wash is much less harsh on the skin on your face. Most regular shampoos have a lot of chemicals in them and are acceptable for your scalp but not conducive to the skin on your face. Specifically, beard hair requires a sulfate-free, natural formula to clean the beard so that the skin beneath the beard remains healthy. Scalp hair can withstand more chemicals because, typically, the scalp is less sensitive than the face.
Wash your beard every other day. The number of times you wash your beard is a “controversial” topic in the beard world. Some say once a week is good, and some say up to 3 times per week. Beard Opulence has a different opinion. We suggest washing your beard at least every other day. Why? Because your beard, no matter the length, tends to attract things throughout the day that can harm your beard's health. If you're active, sweat gets into the beard and stays there. Almost every time you eat, you tend to get food in your beard. Just merely walking around your home can contaminate your beard (dust, pet hair, etc.). For those reasons, washing your beard at least every other day is a good practice. With washing your beard this much, the following steps to maintain a healthy beard become IMPERATIVE! When you wash your beard, you are stripping all the oils, balms, and/or conditioners from your beard. Without the following steps, your beard could become very dry and itchy. We don't want that!
Condition Your Beard. Beard conditioners penetrate the hairs and soften them. The beard strands then relax and become easier to tame. Some people use either beard oils or conditioners, but in our experience, using both seems to have the best results when softening your beard.
Moisturize Your Beard. Without a moisturizer, the skin beneath your beard can become dry, flaky, and itchy. As a result, this may lead to a dry and itchy beard. Beard Oils from different manufacturers have different properties, but mostly all beard oils contain moisturizing properties. Of course, we will speak specifically about the Beard Opulence Beard Oil for this site. Our Beard Oil will help to keep your beard moisturized, conditioned, and soft while simultaneously assisting with repairing breakage in your beard. It will also leave your beard with a silky shine. As you can see, our oil moisturizes the beard but also has other properties to keep your beard as OPULENT as it should be.
Comb your beard with a wooden pick/comb. Wooden Beard Picks/combs help to prevent ingrown hair and keep your beard from drying out. It evenly distributes the oil/balm/butter throughout your beard, coating each beard strand from shaft to tip. They don't produce static, which could cause your beard hair to snap. They can effectively detangle, shape, and style your beard. Using beard care products with a wooden beard comb generally reduces tug or pull. In contrast, plastic and metal beard combs can pull at knots instead of combing them out. They may even scratch the skin beneath the beard, leading to skin irritation.
Make beard maintenance part of your regular routine. Much like anything, the more you do it, the easier it becomes. Always remember, WITH GREAT BEARD, COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY!
